Whingeing Brits and the Eurovision Song Contest (2008)

I caught only the last few acts of this years Eurovision Song Contest and after my initial cringing reaction, I found that some of the acts were actually quite amusing and entertaining. Although I'm from Britain, I actually mostly agree with the marks that Britain has received in the last few competitions as their entries have been crap at best and desperate at worst.

This year's entry had been given such a big build up by the press here that I can only assume that some type of mass denial was taking place. Despite terrible results in the last few contests it seems Britain is still keen not to adapt and instead enter only the crappiest of songs that might have stood a chance a few decades ago, and then expend their energies on complaining of unfair scoring by the other countries involved. Did you actually even listen to the dross before you entered it? I mean really listen to it. I didn't enjoy that 'generic mediocre sound' even in the '80s.

For heaven's sake, it was always meant to be a bit of a laugh while also bringing a bit of prestige to the countries which actually win it. These countries recently have been ones which have suffered from wars, fragmentation, are EU hopefuls, etc. So lighten up you lime sucking scud buckets and don't be such drama queens.
